Bethel Training Centre
 |
Bethel Training Centre opened on November 20th 1997 to help meet the desperate need for education for some of the poorest and most disadvantaged children in Ootacamund, South India. We were also keen to motivate students that had already dropped-out of school to continue their education. |
|
The ultimate goal of this venture was not to provide solely for the students’ educational needs, but also their spiritual needs - to teach these young people about Jesus. Several years on, although the vision is still increasing, the fundamental aims are still the same - by providing a much needed service, we are seeking to bring the love of Jesus to the community.
Current Aims:
- To provide tuition for students who have failed their government exams or dropped out of school for social or financial reasons.
- To provide after school study facilities for children who would otherwise not have a suitable place to do their homework
- To offer IT training for reasonable fees in our computer centre
- To share God’s Word with everyone who passes through the centre

Since BTC opened its doors, over 2000 people have attended the centre for after-school tuition, coaching for exams, or computer training, and all of them have had the opportunity to respond to the Gospel. The centre has an excellent reputation within the town and we have moved into rented premises in a prime location in the centre of Ootacamund. On average we have 30-40 students attending the centre at any one time. |
| Our extra-curricular activities have expanded to enhance our outreach work, and BTC now has its own football and cricket teams. These are great ways to make friends and open up opportunities to share the Gospel. | |
 | All of our students are invited to attend a Bible discussion and worship time on Saturdays. This has been well received and on average we have 20-30 students attending, many of them inviting their friends. We are still seeing the fruit of this as many of the young people have become Christians and are growing in their new faith. We often hold retreat days for them - a chance to develop friendships and learn more about Jesus. |
